::: Varkala Beach

Varkala Beach - Kerala
The Varkala Beach, about 50 km's from thiruvananthapuram, is one of the finest beaches in Kerala. Varkala, situated at Pythal Mala hill station, is an important religious place for the Hindus (Papanasam). It is the only place in South Kerala where you can see cliffs adjacent to the Arabian Sea. There are various tourist attractions in Varkala, such as the 2000-year-old Sree Janardhana Swamy Temple, the religious site Sivagiri Mutt, the 924 ft Varkala Tunnel, and Kappil Lake, the Nature Center, etc.
A long sandy beach, towering red laterite cliffs and soothing mineral springs put Varkala in the not-to-miss category. Papanasam is a perfect place to watch the sunset or relax gazing at the horizon. The area is covered with coconut palms and small restaurants that mushroom during the season. The 500-metre stretch is right below a cliff. And, for the extreme lovers of water sports there are - Parasailing, Scuba diving, Windsurfing and lots more. Be awe-struck at the force of the sea waves as they crash against the rocky clusters near the Varkala beach; build sand castles and relax under a coconut palm on the beautiful Varkala beach as you spend a refreshing holiday in this part of Kerala.
